Winter's had a cold, hard fling
smothering warmth neath
blankets white
horizons lost in muted gray
and huddled humans bound
behind shutters closed
gainst natures fray
but, finally, another day
for tomorrow springs near
arriving with promise dear
of all the new
the heart is looking to
song of birds always sung
whether due applause
gives cause for ovation or sigh
slender green pokes through
flirting with the sun
buds burst, one by one,
till trees sway with heady bouquet
wafting sweet, sweet fragrance
to honor the day
soon the air will be alive again
buzzing, fluttering, soaring
spring arrives in infancy,
a thudding baptismal mooring....
