Poem for Elizabeth Warren

Circle the Square

For Elizabeth Warren

I’ve tried to circle the square

Looking for solutions,

Reasonable and renewable,

Democratic and doable,

But I’ve been caught up in corners,

Boxed in by bias.

So I’ll try circling the square,

Exploring every corner

Like Diogenes, looking

For honest men and

Women of integrity

To move us ahead.

In the house of the people,

I’ll be a good guest.

I’ll not get too comfortable,

And I will not rest

Till I‘ve persuaded my colleagues

To work for the common good.

For the good of the country,

For the people as one,

There is no good reason

We can’t get the job done.

There really is no good reason, other than it's hard to find common ground when most up there are just plain mule-headed. I like her...she's tenacious, but it takes more than just one to make a difference.

Elizabeth deserves all of the accolades she can get. As I read your poem a second time, it occurred to me that it might apply to Obama as well. I think this is a paean to anyone who dares use the power of yin in the yang world of politics.

Yin and yang, give and take. Those who accuse others of being takers are quite often the biggest takers of all. Those who have the least often accept the smallest amount and in turn are the most generous in giving what little they have. There's a poem here, I think.
